Mapping apps are so popular and essential that a smartphone without it does not exist. Mapping has become a necessity in any phone as telephony itself!!

The Nokia Maps can be downloaded for free from the Nokia collection on the Windows Phone Marketplace: exclusively for Nokia Lumia. Nokia has been constantly updating and introducing new features and improvements with regular releases for the Nokia Maps.

Now you can enjoy Nokia’s signature Lumia service: Nokia Maps personalized with your photos, places review and favorite synchronization.

Yes, you can pin just anything – from your favorite food joint or coffee shop to the way back home and your pics.

With Nokia Maps you can now add a photo to a place description and leave a relevant review directly from your Nokia Lumia. You will be amazed to see your contributions available to you and everyone else on Nokia Maps and on maps.nokia.com when you need them.

To improve this experience, Nokia Maps can now automatically sync your favorites with maps.nokia.com, across platforms (Lumia, Belle, N9) and the mobile web version m.maps.nokia.com for iOS and Android.

The update will be available and notified soon if you already have the previous version of Nokia Maps on your Nokia Lumia.

Belle users have an extra edge when it comes to cool things. Nokia Maps has been updated to v3.08. The update is available for Belle devices only at the moment, but will soon come to Anna phones though Nokia Suite.

In fact, Nokia Maps v3.08 now comes with four shortcuts on your Nokia Symbian smartphone home screen: Maps, Drive, Check in and Guides. You can add them by selecting ‘add widget’ > ‘map apps’.

In other words, it’s now faster for you to start the apps you want. Are you driving a car and want to use Nokia’s free voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation with life traffic updates? All it takes is a tap on your home screen.

Though these features are a welcome, we were rather intrigued by this peculiar line

Drivers will also enjoy an easier user interface, which unveils its full potential with Nokia Car Mode with Mirror Link support.

If this is the thing that is included in the update, this will be the best feature of this app. Just think of the countless woes (jams etc) that would be nipped in the bud.

Nokia has finally released the Maps application for the S40 phones. Aimed for the developing markets, Maps plug a hole that was there since a long time for non smartphone users.

Nokia has also released a video which can be watched below.

Nokia Maps hacked and made available for all Windows Phones

XDA Developers, the same guys who bring out great hacks and mods to the smartphone world have done it again. They have made a small XAP file available for download which, purportedly, enables all Windows Phone users (with hacked phones) to sideload and enjoy the Maps application.

Like a good hacker, bobzero ha urged people to be part of the feedback program. Though the Maps application would be officially available for all Windows Phones at the Marketplace soon, this application is for those who can not wait.

We still don’t know if this app comes with the Nokia Drive (which was meant for Nokia Windows Phones only) or not.

Windows phone users rejoice. You will soon be getting a free app in the Windows Marketplace, known as Nokia Maps.

The maps will come as agreed terms where Nokia would be giving some of it’s goodies to non Nokia Windows Phone users.

According to ZDNet

This version of Nokia Maps will NOT support offline maps or voice guided navigation, but does have the following features:

Local POI details (provides you location, phone number, reviews, and photos of up to 25 locations in your vicinity)

Deep link support (you can pin destinations to the Start screen)

Detailed maps in satellite, 2D, and 3D views

So the voice guided navigation would be exclusive to Nokia Phones, but the universally acclaimed Nokia Maps can be downloaded and used by any Windows Phone user, irrespective of the device on which the maps are being installed.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the universally acclaimed Nokia Maps have now stand updated at v3.08 bringing a box full of welcome changes. The most noticeable change is the addition of weather app. The weather app can predict weather for up to 5 days.

Cool Weather app – get local conditions by the hour and forecasts for the week

Live traffic routing info included into Drive start screen

Metric/imperial toggle from Drive UI removed

Search result details are easier to read

Cleaner UX framework

What’s different from v3.07?

Drive Enhancements:

Live traffic routing takes traffic information into account to avoid traffic jams automatically (available in Germany, France, US, UK and Russia).

Turn on "Avoid traffic" in your "Route settings" to take traffic conditions into account while you drive. Always get the best route for right now.

New Drive look & feel – home screen now has buttons for "Set destination," "Drive home" and "Just drive."

"Just drive" or Drive assistance shows your accurate speed, gives speed warnings, the distance driven and real time traffic.

New information bar on Drive navigation and Drive assistance screens.

Also easily toggle between Estimated Time of Arrival in minutes or distance to your destination – just tap the icon on the screen.

New option menus in Drive.

Set a contact as a destination.

Easily change your settings during Drive navigation. Changes in settings are immediate and can been seen instantly.

Additional improvements

Long tap is now available to give quick access to "Drive to," "Walk to," "Share" and various lists.

Settings reorganized to "General" "Maps & Walk" and "Drive."
