The European telecom giants like Vodafone, Orange, Telecom Italia and Telefonica are concerned over Nokia’s future, says Financial Times. What they collectively hope is that Nokia would be announcing at MWC that it “would not” go with android. With the world’s faith in Symbian shaking (No, I am not a part of that world), they hope that Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, would re-affirm Nokia’s commitment to MeeGo as its upcoming future.

The recent past has not been good for Nokia and they have seen their numbers and shares dwindling to iOS and Android. According t Financial Times:

The news follows a number of reports which state that operators including Orange, T-Mobile, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and Vodafone have met to discuss the growing strength of companies such as Apple and Google in the mobile industry – with concern that iOS and Android are “Trojan horses” intended to enable them to forge relationships with users in order to bolster their positions in the mobile value chain.

Since Stephen Elop is also not of the opinion to go with Android and become “one-of-those-android-producing-companies”, what the operators hope to hear at MWC is (ahem) that in case Nokia adopts a different OS other than Symbian and MeeGo, it should go with WP7 (the least evilest of the new world OSes).

It should be noted that in case Nokia plans to ditch Symbian as its mid-high and high end OS (currently all the flagships run Symbian) for WP7, it can hurt MeeGo in the long run (it being the planned flagship OS). Since so much has been put into MeeGo by Intel and Nokia, adopting WP7 could be damaging Nokia in the long run since Nokia has strategized MeeGo to be the OS of the future.

We have our fingers crossed and hope to hear something good from Stephen Elop at the MWC (which we would be reporting live). Stay tuned for more.
