nokia c6 camera Nokia C6 review final verdictIn the last years, Nokia has delivered many disappointing devices. The company has promised a turnaround for some time – is the C6 the first “new Nokia”?

Before looking at the final verdict, here is a list of the tests performed:
Nokia C6 review – unboxing
Nokia C6 review – size
Nokia C6 review – physical
Nokia C6 review – screen
Nokia C6 review – camera
Nokia C6 review – system software

As already said during the test, there is not much to improve. Given that Symbian is the last “business OS” left in mobile, there is not much to be made wrong here especially at the recently-lowered list price.

The screen is good, the keyboard works well and the camera makes “usable” shots. Great mechanical engineering; and the price keeps phone thieves away…

Of course, Symbian 3 is just around the corner. However, the downward-compatible OS brings mostly cosmetical changes which IMHO will not endanger application supply in the near future.

In many ways, the C6 is what the N97 should have been. If you can live with the worse camera and the lack of MicroUSB charging, this 240 euro device is a must buy…

  1. I have been following your C6 reviews, I have ordered this phone to replace my current Palm Centro / Palm TX, I believe this is one of the few recent smartphones sporting a non discontinued OS, carrier unlocked, with no platform restrictions (no jailbreaking needed) for loading new software and accesing all the phone features and file contents , with FM radio. and support for offline gps navigation (i need to run garmin mobile xt) I just hope I do not experience a very steep learning curve coming from Palm OS. Thanks for all the information.

  2. I went from a palm centro to a nokia e63. There was a small learning curve but after a few days I encountered no problems. The only thing that disappointed me is the lack of threaded SMS. I downloaded threadsms from the ovi store which gave me an “apple” like sms experience. There are other apps available for this too.

  3. Thank you for the suggestion, indeed I was looking for an alternative to get the sms messages in a thread view.

  5. i was not happy with this phone. my network sent me it to replace my old-faithfull google G1. i have just sent it back. i cant belive i turned down a blackberry for the C6 . fthe only things i liked about it were the facebook app and the maps and info. other than that it did not impress me.

  6. Hi Sofie,
thank you so much for talking back!

May I ask you what you disliked about the phone?

    With best regards

  7. hi. iv just read my post. i can now see that i kind of took my frustration out on it a bit.oops. but anyway, the things i did not like about it were:
.a bit bulky but felt and looked cheap.
. the touch screen would not coperate with touch (i practically had to hit it to work-so i gave up)
.the home screen and menu – the home screen could not be customized very well to the users preference .e.g. i could not put a SMS shortcut on the homescreen – i had to go around the world to send a text from the menu bar.
. the sound- it didnt do simple loud, silent or vibrate- no good for school because of this
.the buttons/key pad-smaller to what im used to and they did not light up in dark you started typing , so i could not see what i was typing.
.the internet- no back button – it also seemed to have a mind of its own when i was using it as did the maps.
.the phone in gerneral was slow and did not live up to its full potential.
however there was one ‘physical’ feature of the phone i did like: it was the scroll button on the key pad. it is so much better than the wheel that is on the google G1.
but most of this however i think, is just a matter of personal opinion.

  8. Hi,
I have to admit that I have seen keyboard lighting and no touchscreen issues on my C6 – are you sure that the model you had wasnt defective?

All the best, and thanks for talking back

  9. I finally received and have been using the Nokia C6 in the last week, replacing my Palm Centro and Palm TX. So far I am happy with the overall experience. I like The fact I am able to multitask, I welcome having fm radio in the same device. The widgets in the home screen are very useful. The physical keyboard is comfortable, but I am still adjusting to the increased finger travel coming from the centro keyboard (for some letters in the middle I find myself trying to reach with one thumb but giving up and using the other thumb) I am also somehow missing a d-pad in portrait mode. In my Centro I was able to navigate Opera Mini between links and going page up page down with the d-pad, In the Nokia C6 I gain kinetic scrolling, but the d-pad controls a mouse like pointer and I am not able to make the same last/next link/page actions.

Softwarewise I am using Opera Mobile and Opera Mini instead of the built in browser, I added Swipe Keyboard (http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/swype-for-symbian) to be able to get a full qwerty in portrait mode, and not only the T9 keyboard. The built in Email application would not let me configure yahoo, live mail or gmail accounts, I only had the Mail for Exchange option, so I installed the Emoze program (http://www.emoze.com) which is working very well for me. For GPS Navigation: Garmin Mobile XT is working fine, I am also trialing two other programs for offroad navigation and raster mapping: Pathaway (http://pathaway.com/) and TwoNav (http://www.twonav.com/?op=2_1&lang=0en&prod=720) . Finally I have just installed Skype , Fring and Nimbuzz and I will be testing them for comunication tasks. I am also considering StyleTap platform for running the remaining Palm OS programs I have not found a similar alternative in Symbian. Hope this information can be of interest to anyone thinking of getting this phone.
