David Wood from the Symbian Foundation just let us know about the future release plans of his organization: Symbian^2 could be expected to hit the market at the end of this year.
He then goes on to explain that Symbian will have five(!!!) releases of the operating system under development at any given time – they will be handled in a sliding window fashion as illustrated in the chart below:
