4a Samsung starts compatibility drive for its S60 phonesSo far, Samsung’s S60 handsets have made up less than 5% of the total S60 population – developers have not been too interested in it and have thus provided little support.

However, the boys at Samsung’s have now taken things into their own hands in order to get more apps onto the critter pictured on the left – they opened a compatibility board where users are asked to bicker about non-working applications:

As our members you are a valuable source of product feedback and improvement, particularly regarding our firmware. One topic that has generated a lot feedback recently is the compatibility of our devices.

Based on the popularity of this topic we just opened a dedicated discussion board titled ‘Samsung Compatibility’. Within this board there are two forums: one related to Samsung S60 3.1, and another related to Samsung S60 3.2.

We look forward to getting your posts on these forums. And remember thanks to our new ‘The Month’s Best Post’ initiative, any ideas or comments you post will put you in the running for a Samsung phone.

Even though I am always happy to see companies care about third party developers, I fear that this alone will not help Samsung attract further developers to its devices. Samsung has incredibly exciting devices – but fails horribly at marketing them. In fact, one European Samsung marketing manager gets all her info on Samsung’s S60 plans spoon-fed by your editor (hey, speak up) – she was utterly clueless when called up for the first time.

Until Samsung manages to create a venerable market, they are out of luck IMHO. Anyways – the forums can be visited below:
