So far, very few opportunities have been made between S60v5 and established touchscreen operating systems. I recently had a few minutes(!!!) of hands-on time with the box…here is what I saw…

The huge screen of the XPressMusic IMHO suffers from extremely bad usage of screen real estate. The Treo 680’s screen is a lot smaller, yet its launcher displays the same number of icons:

HP’s ipaq rx4240 has an ultra-low resolution screen, but offers not much less visible area:

Finally, here’s a shot next to the N96. Its screen is a lot smaller, yet displays the same number of icons:

Thickness-wise, the unit can not stand out from the crowd either:

In the end, I am not too impressed with the new S60. Its GUI is optimized for stylusless usage to an extent where overall usability starts to suffer.

S60v5 is not for touchscreen power users H it instead targets the iPhoneesque crowd of Nokia followers. I expect a sample in the near future…we’ll know more then…
