Nokia5800XpressMusic 1 lowres XPressMusic 5800 hits the USA without US 3G
According to various news sources, the XPressMusic 5800 is now available in Nokia’s North American flagship stores. The boxen go for 350$ a pop and are blue – there is no information on when other colors will become available.

As good as the deal sounds on paper (the price is awfully close to the 279 Euros Nokia promised), it unfortunately has a few “teeth”. The most important one is the lack of support for US 3G – while the 5800 is 3G capable, its transmitters are tuned to frequencies used by European networks.

This means that the devices are limited to EDGE speeds while in the USA.

P.S. Nokia’s transmitters are said to be hardwired to their frequency range of choice. This makes “frequency updates” like the ones for the Touch pro unlikely at best…
