It looks like the Nokia N85 (the device with the rather crappy OLED screen) will soon get a firmware update fixing a plethora of bugs found in the shipping firmware.
Nokia Service Centers are rumored to already have the update ready for deployment: as Nokia Software Update was recently updated to include Nokia N85 support, a release to end customers IMHO is imminent.
According to insider sources, version 11.047 is said to go live shortly, and will fix a variety of problems – the full change log can be had at symbian-freak’s.

Great news! But what do you mean by “crappy OLED screen”?!?!
It’s the best screen I ever seen (apart that it lacks higher resolution than normal phones)
Hi Sta,
I am sorry, but I am not at all impressed with the OLED screen – I tested it myself, and found that 2yr old TFT screens can get almost on par:

Colors are a little washed out on the TFT than on the OLED Screen. Although the OLED colors are too… bright.
Hi,
please compare it to Samsung’s OLED device!

WHEN is the firmware update coming, my N85 sucks horse ass!?
Hi d,
It’s already available for most product codes in europe. My Baltic product code still doesn’t have the update, but I changed it with Nemesis Service Suite(NSS) to EURO 1 code and updated.
But be aware, that this will void your warranty.
Hi,
I’m still waiting, too – my Nokia N96 still cant update OTA!
All the best

I don’t think that these firmwares will be available OTA. Atleast N85s update was ~130MB when downloaded, so I guess it’s too big for OTA.
Hi Stan,
the firmware transferred from NSU is a whole file – AFAIK, OTA transfers only the difference.
I am currently waiting for an OTA patch for my N96 – stay tuned!

thank you
Hi,
no OTA – I had to update via my PC!

HOW did you manage to get the update? My Nokia Software Updater doesn’t find any new firmware. I could really use the firmare now because i got white hair due to “Not able to install!” thing. I can’t get anything on it, no themes, no apps, no nothing. Hope the firmware will make this go away. Heard that should have some missing certification file. Hope it has it.
Hi Cristian,
I can feel your pain – I had similar issues wity my N96.
Just go on trying – it should become available. Worst-case, ask in the symbian-freak forums: they have a way to force these upgrades but unfortunately void your warranty in the process…
All the best
