After having looked at the size and the physical attributes of the Nokia E63 in previous installments of this review, it is now time to focus on the screen. First of all: its QVGA. Second: it’s landscape. But can it stack up?
Our first contender is Palm’s now-classic Treo 680. The devices generally come out tied, with the Treo 680 having the better blue and cleaner white, while the E63 manages a darker black due to the overall lower brightness:

When it comes to photos, the Treo’s screen is quite a bit better (more detail – look at the eyes):
Next up: HP’s truly fabulous rx4240. Reflective screens are unbeatable indoors: manufacturers stopped deploying them due to bad outdoor readiability. Cutting a long story short: the E63 is blown away:

Finally, it’s time for the good old N71:

When it comes to photos, the two devices are tied:
In the end, the E63’s screen definitely is nothing to write home about – Nokia has deployed significantly better screens in the past. However: this is a 200 Euro business-centric device – outdoor readability (superb) is more important here.
IMHO, the screen found on the E63 is adequate for its intended usage scenarios…nothing bad here. But the real test is yet to come – tune in soon for camera/software tests and a final verdict!
