As usual, the folks at Samsung’s have had a huge booth at the Symbian Smartphone Show in London (I wonder why their press department hasn’t heard of S60 before in Austria). Some of the devices presented were covered in painstaking detail last year – this article focuses on the new boxen:
Samsung i7110
The i7110 is Samsung’s OLED device. It is a decent candybar device and is quite a bit slimmer than my Treo. As for the gorgeous screen: nothing to add here:

I used the opportunity to shoot a short hands-on video demoing Samsung’s custom UI:
Samsung L870
The L870 is a standard business device in slider format. Nothing to add here:

Samsung INNOV8
Samsung’s INNOV8 is the current top-of-the-line box of the S boys (even their Austrian press team knows it). The device had about 90 percent of the booth space:

Here is a small size comparison next to a Treo 680:

The device has a very weird slide-out keyboard: two keys are unmarked, two are labeled M1 and M2. The center button is touch sensitive in a fashion similar to a laptop’s touchpad or trackpoint:

A small action video showing the camera and the custom UI and buttons is below:

Meeting an engineer
Samsung’s booth staff usually is beautiful but braindead. As I was looking at the INNOV8, the guy below popped up:

Sir Richard Geon is one of the engineers behind Samsung’s mobile phones. He couldn’t answer why the keys were unmarked, but had a few cool things to say about past times. The passion he radiated was clearly visible: it was completely obvious that he was extremely proud of his work and identified strongly with the company!
The Samsung booth was among the most-visited ones at the show – there were always people to torture the over 50 display phones:
