Now that the 5800 is out for a few days, various analysts all over the internet have written interesting tidbits on the box. The list below presents the best - hit the titles for the full scoop!
UI walkthrough
Sittiphol Phanvilai, a Forum Nokia member, posted a big screenshot gallery covering almost all aspects of S60v5. Unfortunately, it looks like the menu button is gone: don’t ask me how to open the list of running applications via the touch screen.
Chinese 5800 will come without WiFi and 3G
Don’t ask me why China wants to have its proprietary 3G standard that nobody else in the world will ever use. As developing a technology takes time, the country currently is without 3G network…which leads to devices like the iPhone 3G and the 5800 dropping without their 3G transmitters.
The omission of WiFi IMHO happens for psychological reasons: if Chinese users would see the speed of WiFi, they would probably be unhappy with the current network situation. Unhappyness could maybe force government-owned carriers to invest effort in order to help their customers save time.
As TamsS60 is not a political web site, let’s close this one off with a few extremely true words from the web site of a former Soviet aircraft firm:
In the USSR there were no people for whom time could turn to money therefore the natural market of services which could be satisfied by TU-144s just did not exist.
