People in Finland apparently don’t celebrate Christmas, and thus do not understand the significance of the Christmas shopping season.
Reason for rant: Nokia has decided to delay the launch of the 5800 in so-called “mature markets”, and focuses on so-called “emerging markets” instead. This means that people not living in India, Indonesia, UAE, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Spain or Russia will not get the device 2008, and will instead have to wait until Q1 2009.
I personally agree with most other analysts, who claim that this is done in order to distribute (possibly limited) stock and resources in places where they will be appreciated (aka where touchscreen phones still remain rare). People in countries like Austria are oversaturated with touchscreen phones nowadays: seeing that Nokia is late to the game, going for unsaturated markets is a more than reasonable idea.
Unfortunately, developers currently working on S60v5 apps get to pay the bills: most customers in these countries (except for Russia) will probably not be too interested in purchasing add-on programs…
