Proporta was once known for a variety of innovative case designs – but the slowdown of the PDA market has led to the death of many case concepts. I was thus happy to see a new concept out of Proporta’s…but can the Alu-Crystal case stand on its own?
Proporta’s products have shipped in “jiffy” envelopes like the one pictured below for literally ages. Unlike the boxes used by other manufacturers, these envelopes can be delivered to mail boxes if you are not at home…

As each product ships in a protective blister, stuff always arrives undamaged:

Proporta never ceases to include its belt clips:

An Alu-Crystal case consists of an aluminum sleeve and a PVC cover. Getting the phone into the case is easy – slide it into the sleeve, and press the cover onto it:

The cover then remains on the front as you slide the phone open. Cutouts allow you to access the buttons – unfortunately, the PVC bends while pressing the buttons as it doesn’t lay flat on the phone’s front:

A cutout at the back allows you to access the camera:

Elements at the top and the bottom remain perfectly accessible:

The sides of the case contain cutouts for all necessary elements – unfortunately, the infrared window’s cutout was not placed correctly on my sample:

In the end, it’s always nice to see a new concept from an established manufacturer. However, the Alu-Crystal case doesn’t fit my taste – I prefer the now-classic alu-leather case. People feeling experimental can always take a pop for 30$…the case definitely isn’t bad…
