Resco Photo Viewer updated

Jan Slodicka just sent an email informing me that his excellent Resco Photo Viewer has been updated. Version 4.51 adds the following improvements:

  • Devices without the pencil (shift) key (e.g. N6120 Classic):
Long press of the ‘#’ key is interpreted as shift

  • Zooming in the preview mode loads full sized image if needed
  • Preview mode enables image panning (use shift+arrows)
  • Play music in the slideshow
  • Store your own slideshows for later use
  • Remembers last highlighted image/folder
  • Added option for keeping backlight on when viewing images
  • Improved Exif information dialog
  • Support for EXIF rotation
  • Usage of the GPS information stored in Exif:
Menu allows you to launch Google Maps in the web browser showing the related location.
(You need a camera producing GPS information)

  • Various bug fixes

A beta of V4.51 can be downloaded from Resco’s web site. I can do little except recommend all of you to check out the program - it beats Nokia’s image gallery in all aspects…

Limited-edition Nokia N96 available for approx. 800 EUR

Nokia has launched yet another creative promotion attempt for their Nokia N96 multimedia “computer” - a charitative promotion for a Red Panda project of the WWF.

Should anyone of you feel like getting a Nokia N96 in a wooden box, head over to the flash-laden web site mentioned below. After watching loads and loads of awfully annoying videos, you MAY eventually be offered to purchase one of 96 “limited edition” N96’s.

I personally don’t feel like making my neurons suffer hours and hours of junk in exchange for an overpriced phone - should anyone of you feel masochistic, the link is below:

The Nokia N78 review - unboxing

Nokia”s N78 is difficult to classify. While most analysts consider it to be a mere udate of thre blockbuster N73, Nokia’s inclusion of an FM transmitter makes this box look more like a SplashMusic device to me. So far, so good - maybe the package contents can enlighten us?

Unfortunately, our sample of the N78 was a preproduction unit. While this allows us to offer this review NOW, we had to forgo the inclusion of the usual “sleeve”. The box itself highlights the GPS navigation function:

Like with most other N-Series devices, opening the box immediately allows you to see the phone. However, the N78 is protected by a PVC blister:

The inside of the box reveals no surprises - data cable, standard PSU(no travel tips) and a box containing the manuals:

Nokia’s designers have included a very nifty gadget here - a small adapter that adds remote control functionality to standard 3.5″ headphones.

Finally, here’s a small unboxing video:

In the end, the Nokia N78’s accessory bundle screams “music” - audiophiles will be very happy about the nifty headphone adapter that can double as a remote control. However, business travelers/importers, however, will not be too amused because the N78’s PSU does not ship with international plugs…
