Symbian Foundation claims new victims

The Symbian Foundation has gained additional supporters - here’s the list:

Plans for the Symbian Foundation were announced on June 24, 2008 by the initial board members; AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone, together with Symbian Limited. An additional 11 organizations supported the announcement on that day; today 9 further companies are confirming their endorsement of plans for the Symbian Foundation, including mobile operators 3, América Móvil and TIM, semiconductor manufacturer Marvell plus services and software providers Aplix, EB, EMCC Software, Sasken and TietoEnator.

I actually expected 3 (aka Hutchison) to join sooner or later - after breaking their (once excellent) ties with Microsoft, they are now fully in the Nokia ship and sell more S60-powered boxen that most other carriers.

As for the other folks: membership in the Symbian Foundation is very cheap. Thus, it’s very well possible that some of them just entered the group for publicity reasons or to be “in just in case it flies”….

Nokia Software Update now supports Vista (once again)

Nokia’s PC-based firmware updater has received a maintenance update. Version 1.4.9 of the program now supports Windows Vista - Vista support has been removed a few weeks ago due to unspecified problems.

People who don’t have any problems with their current version can IMHO ignore this update unless they use Windows Vista - as usual, XP users can laugh merrily at their Vista-using siblings…
