Nokia has just released a beta of an application that adds ‘threaded SMS’ functionality to Series60v3 devices on their beta page.
The program is said to integrate into the contacts application and act as an additional tab containing the conversation data(image courtesy of Nokia):
Tests on our N71 showed that the app could be installed easily and showed up in the launcher - but didn’t do anything useful.
A conversation was constructed between a Treo 680 and the N71 - but the program didn’t react. Launching Conversation did nothing - even though the SMS arrived on both devices(as indicated by the Treo screenshot):
Nokia’s embracing of threaded SMS concept proves that the company listens to its customers. However, a program that doesn’t work can’t be reviewed…so :(.

at the Smartphone Show in London, someone hinted that lack of the Flash Lite player(it was on the other memory card) was the reason for the product’s non-workingness…

it would probably have worked perfectly with my N71 if I still had the original memory card(the one with Flash Lite) in the phone…but 40MB of space simply is not enough for me!

Interesting.. I was just wondering, does it work on your cellphone even if the one sending the sms doesn’t have it installed on his/her cellphone? What model is the program compatible with? I’m just curious, does it work on other cellphone brands other than Nokia? Thank you very much. I would very much appreciate it if you could provide additional information. Thanks for this..

yes - all of the sorting is done locally, so the other guy doesnt need the program.
As for compatibility…I didnt even get it running on my N71 - its definitely S60 only…Nokia S60v3 and maybe Samsung…but take care to install Flash Lite…

Same here. I have a brand new e51 with the latest firmware and Conversation installs and shows up fine. It just doesn’t do anything. I can see it but I can’t start it and there’s no new tab in the contacts menu.
All the service packs are up to date and installed. But still nothing.
Damn, threaded SMS would definitely be a useful feature.

Tried it on my nokia e61 but it did not work, does it matter if the phone is unlocked? I’m wondering if that messes with some code in the phone.

IMHO not - unlocking should have no effect on the phones OS as it IMHO is a radio transmitter only thing…
